Fairtrade ANZ set to join UN Global Compact
The United Nations Global Compact is a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
Fairtrade ANZ is committed to becoming a member of the UN Global Compact and aims through its participation within the network to develop new partnerships and participate in projects in order to strengthen Fairtrade presence and increase benefits to small Pacific producers towards better livelihoods and achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals.
Fairtrade ANZ’s CEO, Stephen Knapp has written a Commitment Letter (see below) to Ban Ki Moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations, expressing the organisation’s intention to join the UN Global Compact.

Dear Mr. Secretary-General,
I am pleased to confirm that Fairtrade ANZ supports the ten principles of the UN Global Compact with respect to human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. With this commitment, we express our intent to advance these principles within our sphere of influence, and will make a clear statement of this commitment to our stakeholders and the general public on our website, in our Fair & Square Newsletter of February 2012 and also on our quarterly and annual reports.
We also pledge to take part in the activities of the UN Global Compact where appropriate and feasible – through, for instance, participation in Country/ Local Networks; involvement in specialised initiatives and work streams; engagement in partnership projects; and reviewing and providing commentary to participating companies on their Communications on Progress.
