Fair Trade Producers
Buying Fair Trade products makes a real difference for Fair Trade farmers and workers (producers) in developing countries. Fair Trade means a better future for producers, workers, their families and communities in these countries.
In addition to providing a fair and stable price for their products, Fair Trade is helping producers and their communities build better roads, access health care and send their kids to school. Fair Trade also enables them to grow and develop their businesses, ensuring they can improve life for their families and communities well into the future.
Here is an example of Fair Trade in the Pacific.
In the Pacific region there is a strong connection between consumers and producers:they not only share borders and trade interests, but also the common goal of a peaceful and prosperous region. In fact, Aussies and Kiwis are more responsive to Pacific products when produced and traded within Fairtrade principles.
For this reason, Fair Trade has engaged in the task of increasing the number of Fairtrade
Certified producers based in the Pacific and the number of Fairtrade Certified™ products coming from the islands to our supermarkets. We aim to increase the number of Fair Traders in Australia.
In 2011, the Producer Support and Relations (PSR) project was launched - aimed at facilitating training in local languages, providing guidance on Fairtrade Certification requirements, helping producers to gain access to new markets, facilitating relationships with buyers, liaising with support agencies, and promoting the development of a regional Fair Trade network.
Fair Trade is making a real difference to their lives and their communities.
